In this document, you will find additional information regarding the process for creating the DCPS calendar. In order to make these changes, the upcoming school year calendars now include a long weekend in February and a long weekend in March, rather than a full week off in February.This change is now reflected in the calendar. We heard the importance of providing students and staff a day off in March.Whenever possible, we combined days off (i.e., holidays, professional development days, conference days) to minimize the number of partial weeks. Families expressed that multiple partial weeks can be challenging for managing childcare.Community members expressed interest in a longer winter break when possible.They also identified ending the school year before the last week in June as a top priority. Community members confirmed that they overwhelmingly preferred a 3-day Thanksgiving break, a spring break aligned to DC Emancipation Day, and mid-term parent-teacher conferences.This feedback was critical in the finalization of these documents. We want to thank the over 1,300 members of our community who shared feedback. There is no DC primary election day in June 2025. Friday, January 17, 2025, will be a professional development day. Please note the following changes: School will start on Monday, August 26, 2024, instead of Tuesday, August 27. Schools will be closed for teachers and students on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, for DC’s primary election day. There are no changes to the announced student schedule for winter break classes will resume on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. Tuesday, January 2, 2024, will be a professional development day for staff.
